The most recent eatery to hit Incline Village is Nine 41, a charmingly remodeled fine dining establishment with a clean, yet cozy atmosphere, and an inventive menu that guarantees success. Already garnering an impressive locals’ following, it is easy to understand why this spot is quickly catching on.
My friend and fellow feline aficionado, Pam McDonough, accompanies me on this dining adventure where we are greeted by Adam Bishop, one of the restaurant’s partners and one of the best looking men in town, I might add. Although not from a culinary background, Bishop has done his homework in describing Chef Paul Binaldi’s well-rounded menu.
We start off with the soup of the day, Creamy Potato Cheddar, hearty and rich with luscious bits of roasted garlic and bacon, and the popular Thai Curry Grilled Tiger Shrimp appetizer served with pineapple salsa. These certainly set the tone for the meal at hand as both are mouth-wateringly delicious. The sauce for the shrimp is delicate and coupled with the salsa it packs a refreshing pop of heat. Pam orders a glass of the smooth Guenoc Sauvignon Blanc as an added plus.
Segueing to salad, we opt for sample versions of the Roasted Beet (with goat cheese and almond orange tarragon vinaigrette) and the Spinach (with strawberries, feta, candied pecans and raspberry vinaigrette). They were both equally delightful with a sublime melding of tastes in each. If you are a salad lover, this is the place to be as they offer six other yummy incarnations, which also can be combined with chicken, bacon, shrimp or salmon.
For the main course, Pam orders the Vegetable Strudel (vegetarians are going to love this). The mixed vegetables, encased in crispy Phyllo and served over tomato coulis will delight carnivores, as well. I order the signature 941 New York Strip with cabernet reduction and mashed potatoes. A beefeater’s dream, the meat is tender and the reduction adds a heavenly finish. Both portions are more than ample, yet quickly gobbled up. Because we are gluttons we also try the Baked Fontina and Macaroni side, which is rich, cheesy and creamy.
For dessert, Nine 41 gets even more inventive with a Bread Pudding du Jour. The evening’s offering is a Piña Colada version, rich with coconut and a nice hint of rum. We also try the Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brûlée, which definitely gets an “A” from me.
Nine 41 offers casually elegant dining with prices that won’t break the bank and, with its expansive patio, it is clear that they are destined to be the hotspot of the season.
